CSKA – "Vityaz". Coaches' comments

The head coaches of the teams summed up the results of today's game.

Sergey Fedorov, head coach of CSKA:

— Obviously, the first period was started unsuccessfully. How to put it more correctly…The fact that we conceded three goals, which, in principle, respecting the challenger, we created for ourselves. Nevertheless, congratulations to the players on the victory. We played great in the second period, didn't stop after the fourth missed goal and continued to play our hockey, which we would like to see always. We were lucky to win, but the challenger played the match, created a lot of difficulties for us and in the first period we helped them a little in this regard, without infringing on anyone in this regard. Congratulations to CSKA on the win, we'll work out our mistakes and move towards aggressive play in all three zones. Thanks.

— Sergey Viktorovich, we were pleasantly surprised that there were three debutants at once. I checked, but I never found a time when there were three players who hadn't played a single game in the KHL who came out at once. Is it only due to injuries of the main leading players or for other reasons?

— Yeah, we got a few players sick at once. It's not so much the injuries as it is the virus. So I' m grateful to the guys, they got a lot of information. It seemed from the bench that they performed well today, had a good match. So we keep working with them, we don't think there will be many changes before the next game with "Avangard", the guys are good, they are allowed to be up until twelve at night and we will be happy for them, next working day, we are preparing for a good challenger.

— Matvey Vasin spent only 2.5 minutes on the ice rink. In the third period, you let him out when the team was losing. I wonder if it was an instinct, or what, when he threw the puck?

— Overall, the team played well all game, Matvey was fresh and showed himself well, playing a couple of good line changes. There wasn't much thought, we knew they would come out. After the second period, they decided to change Yegor Kuzminov to Matvey Vasin. My assistants told me to do it. In general, the experiment went well, but as everyone knows, we will not always do this, so today, due to the absence of many sick players who could not play, we decided to give our young players a chance.

— Matvey Guskov looked quite comfortable in a threesome with Slepyshev and Plotnikov. When Vladislav Kamenev recovers, will you send him to the lower links again, or does he have a chance to catch on to the upper links?

— There is always a chance. Well, good health to Vlad, of course, he is the main center and player of our team. I think in the course of our work we will decide who and where will play. It's hard to say, but the players who took their place in the base today had a worthy match, with all those goals by the challenger showed character not only in assertion, but also in the game without the puck, which we ask and want them to show.

— Was the choice of goalkeeper Alexander Sharychenkov today due to the fact that he kept a clean sheet in Nizhny Novgorod, or he was supposed to play according to the plan today?

— Yes, Sasha was supposed to play today according to the plan. It is very difficult for all goalkeepers, not only Sasha, to play without shots. Still, we spent the second period in the challenger's zone, so he deserves special thanks. If the goalkeeper does not catch the puck, it is difficult to tune in to 1-2 shots per period. I believe that Sasha coped with the overall task. Those goals that we conceded in the first period, I think the responsibility is on all the players who were there for their possession of the puck and playing without the puck. We'll review the mistakes tomorrow and slightly correct everything, let's move on, it's a long season.

Vyacheslav Butsaev, head coach of "Vityaz":

— Everyone knows and understands that the game lasts 60 minutes, so today we can have only the first period and part of the episodes in the third. This is not enough to win. We understood that in the second period the challenger will play actively, warned the players what to do, but unfortunately they did not get it and the challenger almost "crushed" us, to say it crudely. In the third period, when they played correctly, they led the score, but after the goal they were caught in the same trap that they were caught in the second period. It's all logical: if you make so many mistakes, someday you will definitely be punished with goals, and that's what happened today. Congratulations to the CSKA team.

— Congratulations on the 400th match in the KHL, this is a very worthy result. I wish for another few times to repeat this achievement. Why did you decide to send Igor Saprykin to the gate today? He had only one game before, and now it's against CSKA right away.

— Thank you very much for the congratulations. You know, today I don't have any complaints to him about the game. He should also play, get game practice. We have three goalies and we have to give everyone some practice. Today he did everything he could to ensure that the team achieved the victory. Unfortunately, the team did not support him.

— Nikita Goncharov got the team back in the game last week, tying the game. Why wasn't he in the squad today? Maybe you could have him on the luck today?

— He was absent due to illness, as were several other players.

— Recent games usually end with a difference of one puck, especially the defeats. What prevents a team from pulling out games that it generally leads but then misses in principle?

— You know, it's simple. Compliance with the coach's instructions, game discipline. You need to play with the heart, with the character. Here is a simple guarantee of success.

— Hopefully, the day after tomorrow the players will have it and you can be congratulated on your victory.

— Thank you, we are counting on it too.
