CSKA – Sochi. Coaches' Comments

Ilya Vorobyov, head coach of CSKA Moscow:

– It was a good first period, we had to build the game on it. In the second period, the opponents began to impose shifts on us, and we began to withdraw. In the third period, we fought, scored and caught up. Then you saw everything for yourself.

– Vitaly Abramov said that he did not follow the coach's instructions...
– Apparently, it was about the second period. He got a suggestion at that moment.

– Which is more sad: the loss to Sochi or to more top teams?
– I don't see anything good in either of them.

– We found the strength to win back, that's a positive. Would you praise the team for that?
– Now is not the right time to praise.

– What does the team lack for stability: experience, teamwork of newcomers?
– A lot of things… I don't think any team has changed as many guys as CSKA. If everything went right away, it would be great, and that's what we were building on. But now it's like we're squeezing the game out of ourselves, working harder, goals are difficult and many other things. We need to reverse the situation.

– Is there any progress despite the defeat?

– The progress so far is that we do not give up and fight in every match to the end.

– Last season, CSKA often took down the goalkeeper in overtime. This season, CSKA plays a lot in overtime: was there a desire to take a chance, despite the amendments to the regulations?

– No. Because it doesn't make sense: the rules have changed, now the team loses everything in case of a missed puck.

– Another problem: CSKA does not have a long bench. Are there no players in Zvezda who could strengthen the team?

– We took Alexey Churkin and Kirill Dolzhenkov from Zvezda.

Sergey Zubov, Head coach of HC Sochi:

– It was an equal game. We are pleased that we were able to reverse a long series of defeats against CSKA. The guys played selflessly – both for Danila and Denis. This is what victory looks like.

– What was wrong with CSKA's third goal 11 seconds before the siren?

– The rivals showed diligence. That's what happens in hockey: you relax a little bit, and there's a goal.

– What about the injured?

– Denis Vengrizhanovsky returned to the ice, a courageous act, we appreciate it. Danil Mokrushev was injured, he was hit in the face with a skate, stitched, lost two teeth. He is staying in Moscow today. But we are pleased that he did not suffer such a serious injury as it seemed at first.

– What does the team need to improve?

– Power play. You always need to improve something and move forward.
