CSKA – Severstal. Coaches' comments

Sergey Fedorov, head coach of CSKA PHC:

— Congrats to our team on their victory. It is always not the easiest games with such an organized team as Severstal. I think we played well, not without mistakes, but in the third period we managed to take control of our game and cause trouble to the opponent. Of course, well done for scoring on time, pocketing the created chances. I'm happy for the team. The game was fast, tense, the puck was moving, our switches from attack to defense were good today, especially in the third period.

— Are today's combinations a prototype for combinations in the playoffs?

— Today there were good combinations, and the game confirmed that to some extent. I would not say that we look so far, hockey is a traumatic sport. It would be ideal if such combinations were in the playoffs, yet we have room for improvement. The guys are great, they understand that there is a certain part of the championship where we have to show reliable hockey.

— Are you satisfied with the performance of Gamzin and Makarov? Is there a chance to come out with the first team again?

— There is always a chance. According to today's game, they deserved it. Makarov did well for today, he joined in. Gamzin gave us a chance to win, showed the level we were waiting for and wanted to see. We will work, watching the movement and progress. First comes stability, then reliability, and then the main roster.

Andrey Razin, head coach of HC Severstal:

— We played on equal terms. It's a pity that we missed out while shorthanded. In most cases, we created chances, but did not use them, did not shoot. Although Samonov kept us in the game, in the second period we missed a lot of counterattacks. There are a lot of emotions, we need to recover, the next game is important for us.

— What prevented you from not missing so many goals?

— CSKA is both a champion and a decent roster, today many came out of the infirmary, as luck would have it for us. Therefore, it is more of their merit than our mistakes.

— Why didn't you change Samonov, as in the last game?

— I changed him in the last game, because, apparently, he lost concentration, missed the fourth goal, I changed him to prevent him from "getting full". Today is a different story, he was given a rest when the sixth skater came out.

— How to find a balance between the number of goals scored and missed?

— Buy a couple of any defenders from today's CSKA roster, and the balance will be great.
