CSKA – Lokomotiv. Comments from the coaches

Sergey Fedorov, head coach of CSKA PHC:

— I think everyone will agree that there were good speeds and a tense game. Both our team and the opposing team had every opportunity to score first. We had a little more of these opportunities, but it happened the way it happened. A good third period, we got back in the game. And overtime is... such a thing. Moreover, this is a backup bench for everyone. ‑Someone uses this chance better, ‑someone worse. I think we were let down a little by discipline, we got a couple of unnecessary dismissals. It's an unfortunate defeat, but I think it's also a great experience for our team. Now we know how to play the whole 60 minutes. We are preparing for the fourth game with pure thoughts.

— Why are there so many dismissals, including unnecessary ones?

— Technically, you work with your feet, and the stick is at the bottom. If you have such a skill, then you play correctly in any situation. And so... it's all about emotions, what can you do here? We had good passion, good drive. But ‑sometimes we got a little overwhelmed. Nevertheless, there is no ‑new situation for our team. We'll worry about it until midnight, and tomorrow is a new working day.

— In the "regular season" you had a poster in the locker room with penalties for dismissals. Were these penalties ‑still in force in the playoffs?

— A poster is a big word. We had certain thoughts, the guys rallied around these thoughts and decided to go a certain way. But this is our internal topic, we will not comment on it.

Igor Nikitin, Head coach of Lokomotiv:

— It was a hard-fought match. CSKA's not an easy opponent, that's why everything is so unsure. We are waiting for the next match. The whole third period turned out like this... we gave up the momentum, we didn't figure out the defense. And we made a mistake that was unusual for us. But we are all human, we all make mistakes. You don't need to be afraid of the bad things, you have to be afraid of losing the good ones. We make problems for ourselves. The point of growth is always difficult to find. Let's hope we're growing.

— But acted as a joker, wasn't there place for him in equal rosters?

— It's not his fault. It happened so because of the situation: a short-handed game, then a ragged rhythm, then backup bench. In stressful situations, we made the right decision. It's not his fault, this is also an experience for him. Players of this level grow while sitting on the bench too.
