CSKA – “Dynamo”. Coaches' comments

The head coaches of the teams summed up the results of the Moscow derby.

Sergei Fedorov, head coach of CSKA:

- Dynamo with a victory, they showed good speed. Unfortunately, we did not manage to play all 60 minutes of the hockey that we showed in the second period and most of the third period. The finishing left a lot to be desired. We created few scoring chances, but they were of high quality. We lost to a good opponent, we conceded first again. I think we will find the reasons and eliminate them. We have a great schedule; next three games we face very good teams. We will regroup a little bit, practice and show the kind of hockey that brings results.

— In the post-match flash interview, you said that you were let down by your emotions. How do you see the solution now?

— This problem will be with us for some time, because emotions are controlled by the players who are on the pitch. We have been working on this for a long time. There are individual players who really want to show good hockey, but sometimes not everything works out for them and their partners, so there's a certain an overabundance of energy. We have an experienced team, we are capable and can play hockey. The confidence, of course, is a little less, nevertheless I look at the next game with optimism, because I liked the combinations that were played today. I do not agree with our beautiful combinations, somewhere we could and should play more straightforward. But this is the skill of the players, they see it that way, let's show them it from a slightly different angle, set them up for the final part of the scoring chances.

— Defender Kristian Yarosh made his debut today, how would you rate his first match? Is he stronger than Viktor Svedberg, who left CSKA in the middle of last season?

- Who is stronger - I think it's not for me to judge. Christian played the first game, it seemed to me he was very active, energetic. He is a powerful defender, unfortunately, earned this removal. Probably, according to the rules of the KHL, this is a removal, but there are always other thoughts. I think his debut went quite well, he learned the important parameters of our tactical game in three zones both with and without the puck. However, I think it will take some time, Christian will have to adapt before we see what he can really do.

— To the majority brigade he hasn't matured?

-   He joined us three days ago. I think it is a bit early.

— In what role do you see Vladimir Brukvin?

- I think, everything will come in handy in life. Volodya will only get better, it's already clearly visible. Just like any new player in a new team, new tactics, it will take some time. I don't think that we are ready to use all of his potential to 100% right now. He gives us very good food for thought, I hope he will continue with the same energy.

— Alexander Sharychenkov is playing in the gate after a break. Something is not lucky for him in recent matches, isn't it time for him to take a break?

- I`ll argue with you about pauses. We have a goalkeeper` coach, Sergey Ivanovich Naumov. We have talks about who and when should play. You have noted correctly: the puck bounces in the wrong place when Aleksandr is in gate. I think both against “Locomotive” and today he played very decently. I wouldn't be surprised if we see him in the next game, it's normal. There are five well-trained players playing in front of our goalkeeper, unfortunately we didn't help him in certain moments.

— Two minutes before the end of the third period, there was a throw-in in the “Dynamo “zone, then in the neutral zone. Usually in such situations, the coach necessarily takes a time out, but you did not. Can you explain the logic of your actions?

— I didn't want to slow down the pace of our players, we confidently won the throw-in, made the rebound and had the initiative. In my opinion, any pause knocks down the rhythm not only of the opponents but also of us. The guys played quite confidently, we moved the puck and looked for ways to the opponent's goal.

— Alexey Kudashov, head coach of “Dynamo”:

- It was a good game; I think the audience liked it. There were a lot of chances, but only 3 pucks were not enough, both Dynamo and CSKA created more chances. I liked the way they played, both offensively and defensively, and their dedication.

— An exemplary exhibition game in defense, just two minutes of penalty. What was that about?

- CSKA played very well: quickly, aggressively. We must pay tribute to the players: they did not cling, they kept themselves in hand.

— Why was Artyom Volkov absent?

- We have two not playing guys, it's such a part of the season that everyone will be changing, regardless of how they play.

— What did you say to the team after the successful first period? The game seems to be going well, but there is an inner wariness.

- Said that further will be another game. It doesn't happen in hockey that a team dominating all 60 minutes, at least in our league, because the teams are not very different in level. The team occasionally plays either in attack or in defense, so you have to be ready. Moreover, CSKA is a champion, a team that will not constantly play defense, it will constantly attack.

— The next match of Dynamo is HC Sochi. Of course, the coach primarily looks at his team, but the opponent now has a young and promising defender, rented from “Dynamo” — Vasily Machulin. Will it be interesting for you to watch this player against the background of your own team?

— I watch every game, I watched all the games in the preseason and I`ve even passed some things to him, so there won`t be anything special. I am very happy for Vasya, he needs to play at this level, he gets practice, irreplaceable experience.
