For CSKA, the game did not go well from the very beginning. In the very first minute, Mikhail Vorobyov broke the ice in favor of the hosts. The Moscow CSKA team had several chances to respond quickly, including a 1-0 exit goal, but failed to outplay the goalkeeper of the St. Petersburg team. And then Nikita Gusev, Zakhar Bardakov and Damir Zhafyarov made the score 4-0 in favor of the hosts. At the last turn, Adam Reideborn was replaced by Aleksandr Sharychenkov. CSKA started the second period actively and could have broken the goose egg in the very first minute — the puck bounced off the board and almost fell off the back of Nikolayev's neck.
