CSKA won the regular 2020-21 season, and Spartak was 8th in the Western Conference, so the two Moscow teams had to face each other. All four games between them in this season were very tough, and tonight's match was not an exception.
Spartak was not playing like an underdog. Red-white had some good chances in the first period, and in starting minutes they had an obvious advantage.
In the second period it was CSKA who had best chances to open the score, but Spartak goalie made some great saves. Both team continued to be better in the defence than in the offence, and even after 60 minutes of play the score was still 0:0. In the overtime CSKA avoided an upset. Maxim Shalunov scored the only goal assisted by Konstantin Okulov.
