After a confident victory over Amur (7-0), the players and coaches of CSKA faced the task of consolidating success by starting a winning streak. The rivals were Kunlun Red Star, which plays home matches in Mytishchi near Moscow. Ilya Vorobyov, head coach of CSKA, did not make any changes to the winning line-up.
Our team got off to a good start. In the first minutes, CSKA came dangerously close to the opponent's goal several times, and in the sixth minute the score was opened. Denis Guryanov played the puck back to Yegor Afanasyev, who threw at the goal, and Guryanov competently worked on the rebound from the slot. At the end of the first period, the referees sent off our players three times in a short period, two times CSKA remained three against five. In the first case, CSKA managed to defend themselves, but 14 seconds before the break, Kunlun was able to capitalize on the power play.
In the second period, the Chinese team again gave an equal fight to our team, there were good moments for both rivals. But CSKA players have improved both defensively and offensively. Ivan Prosvetov played reliably at the last turn, and Konstantin Okulov managed to realize a chance ahead. After the throw from Vladislav Kamenev, number 71 of our team did not leave any chances for the Kunlun goalkeeper with a cool throw. CSKA could immediately increase the advantage in the powerplay, but in several episodes the CSKA strikers were frankly unlucky.
In the third period, CSKA scored again, Konstantin Okulov scored a double, outsmarting the goalkeeper with a throw from a negative goal. CSKA could have brought the game to a quiet victory in regular time, but the hosts got a boost and in the end they played both goals, taking the match into overtime. For the first time in the season, CSKA was able to win in an extra five minutes. Christian Yarosh gave a pass to Ruslan Iskhakov, who summed up the meeting.
