Kicking off the Mayor’s Cup with a blowout in the derby

CSKA kicked off the Moscow Mayor's Cup against the Spartak in a classic cross-town tilt Our team hit the Megasport ice to show off our new signings and drop the fresh jerseys dedicated to the CSKA 80th-anniversary.

It was a high-tempo start. Our team lit the lamp just two minutes in. Maxim Mamin centered it from the flank, and the Spartak defender tried to intercept but put it into his own cage on a mishap, catching Ivan Fedotov completely cold. That goal didn't trigger a goal-fest; it was a real dogfight with CSKA holding a slight edge. The Army Men tucked another one in the second, pure puck luck. Marat Khairullin put the puck on net and it bounced in. Later on, the Army Men found their game, absolutely caved them in, and turned it into a certified blowout. Maxim Sorkin picked twice during the power play and scored on the second attempt. Ivan Drozdov cashed in a gritty goal right out front. The fifth one by Denis Guryanov crossed the line, but it got waved off for goalie interference. The team probably isn't losing any sleep over that. A 4-0 shutout, and tomorrow they battle Minsk Dinamo for a spot in the finals.
