Yesterday, before the match with Spartak, a solemn ceremony was held to raise the name banner of the legendary CSKA player Sergei Fedorov under the vault of the CSKA ARENA. It was dedicated to the 55th anniversary, which Sergei Fedorov celebrated on December 13. Fedorov took to the ice with his family and made a symbolic throw-in. Igor Esmantovich, president of the CSKA Hockey Club, and Boris Mikhailov, honorary president of the club, delivered congratulatory speeches to the hero of the day, and our team's hockey players played in a special retro set of uniforms.
During the match, Sergei Fedorov also answered questions from journalists.
— You said in an interview recently that you don't miss coaching. Haven't you changed your mind?
— Not yet, I haven't changed my mind. Honestly, I enjoy the family atmosphere, I saw my children after seven or eight years. Before coaching, there was also a certain amount of work and workload. That's why I'm happy to be with my family and do simple things.
— Have you received any offers since you left the post of head coach of CSKA?
— There were no offers, and no one talked with me about continuing to work as a coach. Or I just didn't pick up the phone. If there were offers, I can't even imagine my answer, because it's unlikely that this would happen. In my understanding, I have completed my coaching career at the moment.
— Now you spend more time with your family. How important is it for you to be with your family after coaching career?
— It's very important, because I can see the children. They matured very quickly. Unfortunately, I haven't been home for a very long time, especially the last three years. Now I understand how they live and what are their interests. The day starts at seven in the morning, I cook breakfast, dress the children, send them to school, sometimes I take them myself. That's why everything suits me.
— What does today's ceremony mean to you? How was this idea received?
— I received the idea very well. I immediately said yes, because I understand: this is not only my personal interest or merit in this. I am glad to be a part of such a great club as the Central Sports Club of the Army. After all, we started in the Soviet Union with great coaches and players and continued with our teachers, who taught us how to play winning hockey. I haven't realized everything yet, but it's very nice to return to the arena and see the guys, the CSKA team, and say a few words to our fans. Best wishes and peace to all.
