Every day in the CSKA calendar is important. We remember the CSKA history and some interesting facts from January 20.

- This day, CSKA players usually shined for the USSR national team. In 1958, two goals by forward Yuri Pantyukhov helped defeat the Polish national team in Moscow in the second of two test games. The first game ended with a 11:1 score. Our goal after almost two year break was defended by Grigorii Mkrtichian.

- A year later in Stockholm, the Soviet national team made comeback: being at a disadvantage with a 0:2 score to the Swedes after the first period, ours won the game with a 5:4 score, thanks to a double by forward Konstantin Loktev.

- Preparing for the Olympics in Sapporo-1972 and Innsbruck-1976, the USSR national team won two away victories over the Finns on January, 20. In Helsinki, Suomi team was defeated with a 8:1 score, two goals were scored by forward Yuri Blinov, who hit the ice in a line with Boris Mikhailov and Vladimir Petrov. The 19-year-old Vladislav Tretyak tended the goal, and they finally counted on him as the national team's main backstopper. Four years later in Turku our team won with a 9:4 score, with Mikhailov, Petrov and Kharlamov this time playing in the same line and scoring each one by a puck.

- On January 20, 1950, CSKA team posted a win against Spartak with a 3:1 score in a derby. A goal by Igor Netto (later the famous captain of the USSR national team) was answered by the attackers Vladimir Elizarov, Vladimir Orekhov, and Evgeny Babich by point-blank shots.

- That day in 1986, CSKA defeated Khimik, Voskresensk with a 9:2 score in Luzhniki. The present-day world champions in youth, the goalie Evgeny Belosheikin, the defenseman Vladimir Konstantinov, and the attackers Valeri Kamensky and Igor Vyazmikin hit the ice for the winning team. Three months later, the first three of them will wear the uniform of the first national team at the World Cup in Moscow and win gold medals.

- Exactly one year later in Moscow, our team posted a win with a 7:4 score over Sokol, Kyiv. 17-years old Alexandr Mogilny opened and closed the scoring. He hit the ice in one line with Vyacheslav Bykov and Valeri Kamensky. The next season Mogilny went to the Calgary Olympics and came back with a gold medal.

- On January 20, 1989, in Riga, CSKA Team, Moscow, eliminated a 0:3 handicap in a game with the local Dynamo. They scored five goals in a row against the rising prospect Arturs Irbe and came from behind with a 5:3 score. Pavel Bure, 17 years old, who played in a line with Sergei Fedorov and the team captain Sergei Makarov, scored twice. Fedorov had two assists.

- Dynamo Riga found itself on the CSKA board on January 20, 2015. On its way to its 33rd championship, CSKA scored three submissive pucks against the Latvian team in Moscow. The first and winning one came from Sergei Andronov, the current team captain and the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic champion.

- A year later at the arena in the "Park of Legends" (now CSKA ARENA), our team posted a beautiful win with a 3:2 score in a penalty shootout over Dynamo Moscow, the home team at the time. The French forward Stephane Da Costa opened the scoring, delighting the fans with his exquisite individual prowess. Thirty-nine seconds before the buzzer, Ivan Telegin put the game into overtime. Dmitry Kugryshev, the graduate of Specialized Children and Youth Sports School of the Olympic Reserve, iced the derby with a penalty shootout.
