Alex Cotton: When I found out that CSKA had acquired me, I was speechless

CSKA defender Alex Cotton shared several facts about himself with the army men fans.

– I am originally from Langley, British Columbia. It is quite large and is a suburb of Vancouver. That's why I like to say I'm from Vancouver, it sounds cooler.

I'm a pretty fast attacking defender and I like to help the team in that style. But I try to be a two-way player, I want to be reliable defensively and help out in my own zone.

I'll be rocking number 65 for CSKA this season. I prefer number 27, my favorite defenseman [Scott Niedermayer] wore it, but Maxim Sorkin has it at CSKA. 65 is my backup number because of Erik Karlsson.

The move to CSKA is an incredible story, it caught me completely by surprise. I was flying home and my agent called and told me that CSKA had acquired me. To be honest, I stopped and was speechless because I know what a great club CSKA is in Russia.

The first place I played professionally was Finland. I learned a lot, it was my first experience of living on my own away from home. This was a challenge I had to face. After Finland, I played briefly in Sweden and ended up in Slovakia that same season. I really enjoyed it there, we won the championship title that year.

A classic hobby for a hockey player is golf. I love all kinds of sports: basketball, tennis, pickleball – anything that requires physical activity.
