CSKA won the second Army Derby of the season in the shootout.
CSKA coaching staff put some changes into team's roster for second Army Derby of the season. Andronov, Telegin and Rtishchev were scratched, Vey, Sekac and Shalunov returned to the lineup.
The latter of those three made a huge impact 8 minutes into the first period when he picked up a rebound after his own shot and put the puck past Melnichuk. SKA coaches took an offside challenge, but after review of the play the call on the ice stood – good goal and minor penalty for home team. CSKA had a chance to double their lead but couldn't do it, which cost them. In even strength Tkachyov found a way to the net and made a wrist shot that sent the puck over Sorokins glove – tie game. CSKA answered in second period – Shalunov again was first on the rebound for his second of the night. After that Grigorenko scored a third one for red-and-blue, but it was overturned because of Kaprizov stuck in the goal crease at the moment of the shot. Then Slepyshev took a penalty and SKA converted it in 5 seconds. Lehtera won the faceoff and Tkachyov made his way around CSKA defense to place the puck between Sorokin's pads. Third period was a two-way street – both teams had chances to take a win. At the end of regulation CSKA got two penalties in a row and had to start OT in 3 on 5 situation, but their special teams did a tremendous job. In a shootout Vey's lone succesful shot aтв five saves from Sorokin brought victory to CSKA.
