CSKA – Severstal. Coaches' comments

The head coaches of the teams summed up the results of today's match.

Sergey Fedorov, head coach of CSKA PHC:

— After three days of preparation, we managed to reach the level of the game that helps to score the necessary goals. But missing first is not good. In the second period, we lost our attackers, we were cut off with one pass. To our central strikers' credit, they played well, converted their chances. Most leave much to be desired.

— The playoffs have started, and the first day pleased us with sensational results. How surprised or motivated were you?

— There are many opinions here. I didn't see the goals being scored. I asked my assistants nominally who played and how the did it. There were a lot of video views and work on Severstal, it overwhelmed me, I didn't follow the first day of the tour.

— Rate your game on point. Andrey Vladimirovich said that today their team lost this important component.

— Face-off is the beginning of the game, it is a combat. The guys know it. I used to be a center forward, now I myself participate in the process of face-off training, as it became the custom 7-8 years ago. The last coaching staff gave the task to solve the problem at the point, since four of the 6 central ones were extreme. I agree with my colleague, this is an important component in the game.

— Can we say that Aleksandr Sharychenkov is now the main goalkeeper and he will go further, or will you rotate him?

— At the moment Aleksandr is playing. I think it is very difficult to play when there are few shots and the goalkeepers have little work. Goalkeepers should be in a mode where there is work in every line change, but it does not always work out for them. It's good for the team when we take the puck before entering our zone, but it's difficult for our goalkeepers. We are talking with Sergey Ivanovich Naumov about this, because both Adam and Sasha have their own routines, the ways to get ready. We had some problems during the season, but we have worked through them and we know who should play in goal.

Andrey Razin, Head Coach of Severstal HC:

— We had a good first period, we kept the puck, we acted well in attack. In the second period, we brought ourselves a couple of line changes. Plus, the performance of our central forwards at the point leaves much to be desired, the first two goals were missed because of this. Apart from the goal in an empty net, all the other goals were the same — a shot into the net, a redirect goal. We'll sort it out, we'll see, we'll fight. The series has just begun.

— Severstal beat CSKA 6-4 on Sunday, what changes were expected in the opponent's game today?

— No changes at all. Our roster was a little different. We hoped that the opponent would not tune in, we will play on this. Today we had an optimal roster, CSKA came out with a completely different attitude. In the last game we played great on the point, killing the minority of the opponent. Today, almost every throw-in in our zone ended with a throw and catching the puck on itself.

— Many teams at the start of the playoffs show that everything is possible. Due to what it is possible to take this series?

— We don't look at other teams, we have enough problems of our own. This is an interesting championship, a playoff. It's interesting for the fans. It's time to promote hockey, there is only football everywhere.
