17:00: CSKA vs Ak Bars

CSKA showed its class in game three – and why the team is the Gagarin Cup’s reigning champions – with a solid win in Moscow following another strong performance in the second game. In particular, CSKA was lethal in the middle frame, when they scored three times on just five attempts – Zinetula Bilyaletdinov had no other choice than recall Timur Bilyalov to the bench in favor of Amir Miftakhov, but it was too late despite a late tally by Alex Radulov.

Series stand
CSKA is leading the series 2-1 (1:4, 3:0, 3:2).

About the game

It was a one-goal game on Friday, but hardly anyone could count on an Ak Bars’ win – especially after CSKA’s incredible shoots-to-goal ratio in the second period. Mikhail Grigorenko, Maxim Sorkin, and Anton Slepyshev scored for the guests, with Dmitry Voronkov and Alexander Radulov replying for Ak Bars. Slepyshev and Nikita Nesterov celebrated 50 points in the KHL postseason, while the team celebrated a well-deserved victory and being up in the series after the third game means that they will need to go against the tradition as only SKA in 2017 managed to win the Gagarin Cup finals in an identical situation.

CSKA’s forward Mikhail Grigorenko is on a three-game scoring streak, with 4 (3+1) points over that span.

Milestone alert

CSKA’s forward Maxim Mamin enters his 100th postseason game tonight.

CSKA’s forward Konstantin Okulov may reach 200 KHL assists (currently at 198).

Ak Bars’ defenseman Vyacheslav Voynov may reach 200 KHL points (currently at 199).

Ak Bars’ forwards Vadim Shipachyov and Dmitry Kagarlitsky are in the run to reach an assist milestone, with Shipachyov getting close to 600 (currently at 598), and the latter seeking his 300th (currently at 299).
